Static Is Not a Philosophy, It's Geometry: Why LAFC Removed Marc Dos Santos and Kept the Real Problem

I watched the 1-0 defeat in Dallas from a tea stall in Sylhet, at six in the morning, on a phone screen with a cup of milk tea going cold beside me. When the whistle went I did not feel grief. I felt irritation, because across those ninety minutes I had not seen failed football. I had seen football with the wrong geometry.

"Static" is a supporter's word, not an engineer's

The dressing room is a status market

The arrival of Son Heung-Min is the biggest input change in this club's history. After such a change you need a coach who arrives with full authority to break the previous arrangement, an outsider owing nothing to the old administration. Instead they chose an insider whose entire legitimacy is borrowed authority from that very administration.

A coach promoted to preserve a system cannot be the one asked to demolish it, because his identity points in the opposite direction from demolition.

There is the structural contradiction. Thorrington's coaching-succession philosophy and the club's star-buying philosophy pull against each other. Dos Santos is a casualty of that contradiction, not its author. Removing him does not resolve it, because the structure is still standing.

The elimination from CONCACAF Champions League in May came before this decision. The fixture load lightened and the football got worse. The fatigue explanation does not survive that fact.

Where I could be wrong

Now let me write my own sentence in public.

Three things would make me concede the diagnosis was wrong. My prediction is simple. LAFC will hire from outside. Having lost an internal bet twice, a general manager who rolls the same dice a third time is gambling with his own job. And there is no room to gamble. Six league matches remain and the playoff cut line moves every night.
